Summer 2009 part 2

The second-half of summer zoomed by! Here are some pictures of what we've been doing. Mid-July Savannah celebrated her 12th birthday with her friends at Knotts Berry Farm. They returned to our house for dinner, movie and a sleep-over...
I'm not sure how much sleeping was accomplished during the sleep-over!
All our labor in the garden during the spring started paying off in July as a bumper crop started to deliver melons, tomatoes, watermelons, snap-peas and so much more...

August marked the changing of the neighborhood guard as we said goodbye to The Fongs and The Keiths, both of whom moved away. The whole gang got together for one last time. Lesli made a fantastic dessert for the occasion...

The girls joined Lesli in San Diego for a week. Lesli began preparing for her 30th high school class reunion and the girls went to day-camps. Here is Charlotte at "gymnastics camp"...

By mid-August we had tomatoes coming out of our ears. Our entrepreneurial girls started a combination lemonade/produce stand. They sold out in one afternoon!
One of the big highlights of the summer was sending the girls to sleep-away camp for a week. Here they are as we're about to take them to the bus which drove them to rural San Diego county.
Savannah had to come home early due to (what we think was) Swine flu. Charlotte was there for the duration! Here are some of the parents after the bus took the kids away...

Several summer weekends found us doing what we do best - goofing around at the beach with friends...

Each year Lesli plans a camping trip for the neighbors & friends. This year's location was spectacular El Capitain State Beach north of Santa Barbara. Great weather and even better friends made this 2-night trip feel like a real getaway. Here are Charlotte & Aubrey
The campground sits on a cliff above a beautiful stretch of beach...
Melody and Dominique have a warm moment reminiscing over an old shoe...
Dan & Rich wax poetically about basketball skills gone awry...
Liz is always having a good time...
A rare moment when Savannah was stationaryl during the trip....

Charlotte will testify: camping is exhausting business...
Savannah was enamoured with the giant milkshake (okay, so was I) so we ate at this In-n-Out burger on the way home. They make a good burger...
During the peak of the Station Fire, some of the flames were easily seen 30 miles across the LA basin. This was taken from the hill-top behind our house...
I don't know what is going on in these two pics...

We capped-off the summer with a great Labor-Day trip to Palm Springs. We rented a house and the whole place - including the pool, gazebo and home - was just perfect for us! Here is the moonrise on our first evening....
and some crazy clouds on our second evening...
As tradition (and Charlotte) dictates, we played Monopoly. Lesli was the realtor...

Margie & Van visited on the last full day in Palm Springs. Note the cool gazebo in the background. A couple days later and the girls were starting the school year!
Fall brings soccer, Halloween and Dan's nephew Evan's wedding! Until then!
